Water Softener Sales and Installation
If you have hard water you know how many problems it can cause. Your shower heads and faucet heads can get clogged up over time thanks to mineral build-up and hard water can also leave unsightly stains on everything that it comes into prolonged contact with. Hard water also doesn’t taste the best, either, especially if you’ve just moved from an area that doesn’t have hard water. While it isn’t the most difficult thing to deal with, cleaning up hard water stains and clearing out faucet and shower heads can take up a lot of your precious time. If you’re sick of dealing with all of the problems caused by hard water, call us at Minnesota Plumbing & Heating. We can install a water softener system that will remove all of the bad-tasting, staining minerals from hard water and leave you with delicious water that won’t force you to spend a bunch of extra time cleaning your tubs, sinks, coffee makers, and toilets.
Why Do I Have Hard Water?
Hard water is caused by water seeping through mineral deposits (oftentimes limestone) over hundreds and thousands of years. As it leaches through the limestone it picks up minerals like calcium and magnesium. Calcium and magnesium are the minerals responsible for clogging up faucet heads in a gradual process of accumulation called scaling.
What Does a Water Softener Do?
A water softener works by replacing the minerals in your hard water with sodium bicarbonate through the process of ion exchange. Ion exchange is achieved with a combination of negatively-charged beads (often made of polystyrene) with positively-charged sodium ions attached to them that meet the calcium and magnesium inside of hard water, which are also positively charged. The minerals are attracted to the beads and then stick together while simultaneously pushing the salt ions into the water. After the now-softened water is pushed out to your sinks and toilets, a brine solution washes back over the beads, again replacing the minerals with salt. Rinse and repeat.
If you don’t want to deal with the taste of hard water and you’re sick of cleaning up the remains of hard water scale, call Minnesota Plumbing & Heating in Shakopee.
